This adorable bead has been hand cast in solid 925 sterling silver by artisans in Peru. The little silver sculpture is designed to slot neatly onto our hand made leather straps with sterling solid silver buckle. See ‘Additional Information’ below for dimensions.
STORY: This ‘Moon Mother’ design is taken from a sculptured ceramic figure of a Moche mother, shown with an enchanting smile and the scalloped headdress, typical of the attire of Moche women and priestesses. Study of the murals and ceramic art shows that women played a prominent role in Moche culture, both in religion and ceremony. Most recent discoveries of Moche archeology show that women indeed were not just the daughter, mother, or wife of the noble warriors but also had high status and many roles in Moche society. In fact it was female Si, the moon goddess, who was considered to be the supreme deity in Moche culture, visible both night and day, more powerful than the sun, controlling the seasons and the storms, looking over her people, their harvests, their battles and their daily life.

Contact between the celestial world of stars and the earth was considered essential to achieve successful harvests, hence the importance of the star motif.
