This large organically shaped bead has been hand cast in solid 925 sterling silver by artisans in Peru. It is designed to thread either individually onto our silver chains, leather necklets, hoop earrings or braided and plain leather bracelets. See 'Additional Information' below for dimensions.   STORY: This 'Cactus Stem' silver bead is based on a stone Moche mace head,  an instrument of battle and yet fashioned in such beauty. The maces were often formed in shapes related to nature such as stems, flowers, stars, and cactii. The Moche artistry shows that they were great farmers cultivating many crops in the the river valleys. They were able to transform the land into a verdant oasis with the development of an extensive irrigation network. This organically shaped ridged bead symbolises water, the provider of life and good harvests.

STORY: This beautiful four pointed star shaped silver bead is based on a stone Moche mace head. The clubs were often formed in shapes related to nature, the cosmos and the gods whom they worshipped. Contact between the celestial world of stars and the earth was considered essential to achieve successful harvests, hence the importance of the star motif. The subjects in Moche art such as the warriors, priests and owls, were often depicted as whole scenes showing night skies full of stars across which crescent boats carried figures such as Si, the moon God.

See ‘Additional Information’ below for dimensions.   STORY: This 'Warrior Priest' bead is based on a traditional Moche Priest, thought to be one of the most important figures of moche traditional ceremonies. The Warrior Priest is often depicted in ceramic decoration with rays emanating from his head and shoulders. In addition to his conical helmet, he wore a crescent-shaped headdress and large circular ear ornaments. The Moche priests were the curators of ceremonies in both life, death and seasonal thanksgiving.  The warrior priest was respected for their status, guidance, spirituality and connection to the celestial world. Some scholars believe that the central decoration on their headdress sometimes a double circle, or an owls face depicted the third eye, symbolising intuition.
