STORY: This beautiful four pointed star shaped silver bead is based on a stone Moche mace head. The clubs were often formed in shapes related to nature, the cosmos and the gods whom they worshipped. Contact between the celestial world of stars and the earth was considered essential to achieve successful harvests, hence the importance of the star motif. The subjects in Moche art such as the warriors, priests and owls, were often depicted as whole scenes showing night skies full of stars across which crescent boats carried figures such as Si, the moon God.

The combat illustrated in artistic narratives appears to be ceremonial rather than militaristic. The stories shown were about the expression of individual valour, in which the warriors engaged in one-on-one combat usually fighting in inter-valley rivalries in disputes over agricultural land.
